The flag of Papua New Guinea has a rectangular shape with an aspect ratio of 3:4. It consists of two equal-sized diagonal triangles, the upper triangle is black and the lower triangle is red, separated by a white stripe containing a depiction of a bird-of-paradise in black. The black triangle measures 1/3 of the hoist side and the red triangle measures 2/3 of the fly side. The bird-of-paradise is in the center of the white stripe and has a wingspan of 2/3 the width of the flag. The color codes for the flag are:
